This safety week, ensure your child knows about the risks from not wearing their safety belt on the school run or on a school trip.
BUSK director Pat Harris asks, "Would your child get onto a coach if the driver told them his brakes did not work? Not likely! So why then, would they not use their own personal brake - that is their safety belt? If the coach or minibus they travel on was to come to a sudden stop or impact with something and they are not wearing their safety belt, then they will simply continue to travel at the same speed the vehicle was travelling at before it crashed. They will not stop until the hit something, either inside the coach or hit another person or go through a window."
