Coach company support's Nightcap appeal
Friday March 17, 2017J & C Coaches is the first coach company to pledge support for the Nightcap appeal to help to raise £5,000. The funds are needed a legal opinion surrounding tour operators to see if they have a case to answer if they fail to provide suitable accommodation for coach drivers that allows them to sleep undisturbed. Some drivers are also finding that they have to fight for a day bed which is a legal requirement ahead of an overnight drive. Measures to ensure coach drivers are properly catered for is essential to the safety of passengers, the drivers and all other road users. An European Report found that up to 30% of coach crashes are linked to driver fatigue.
Support from J & C Coaches comes hot on the heels of Rondo Travel also pledging support last week. They are the first tour company to do so. BUSK director Pat Harris said, "During the last week three tour companies have applied to join BUSK Approved, a scheme run by BUSK to help promote to schools, those tour companies that always ensure they give coach drivers a room of their own to the same standard as the party they drive or higher, provide a cabin each for overnight ferry crossings and would never expect a driver to sleep in a tent, shed or caravan on school trips in the UK or abroad. They recognise the important role of the driver and that the safety of the passengers is in a driver's hands."
