What is Benchmark?
BUSK Benchmark is the first and only completely independent star rating for the minibus and coach industry based on safety and legal compliance. Companies listed on this website undergo independent audits to check how the company is run, what systems are in place to safeguard passengers and to what standard drivers are trained. Checks are made when a company applies to join and every three years after that. All companies are subject to a random spot check during live membership with a site visit.
National Guidance recommends using a transport company that has Benchmark accreditation.
Is it ok to take a transport company at face value?
When it comes to hiring transport, do you think about the history of that company and whether they have been called to a Public Inquiry by a Traffic Commissioner for operating defective vehicles? Every week, trade press reports evidence those rogue companies that are happy to put passengers at risk simply because they put cost before safety. They cut corners without a thought of consequential outcomes should things go wrong. Benchmark members are required to meet a much higher standard in terms of safety than the minimum legal requirement. Our members must undergo independent safety audits. IVTA Services and Minimise Your Risk are responsible for undertaking the independent audits on behalf of BUSK. The audits look closely at health and safety policies, record keeping such as a vehicle defect reporting systems and important fleet checks. They check the Benchmark rating and other compliance records too. This means that you can be assured that our members are legally and safety compliant.
All our members are licensed to use the Benchmark logo on their fleet, websites and marketing material to let you know they have met the BUSK standard. No matter whether you are a school making transport arrangements for school trips, a local authority awarding home to school contracts, or a group hiring transport for a shopping trip or visit to a show, choosing transport that is operated by a forward thinking company that cares about providing you with a safe service should be your number one priority. It should never be about just choosing the cheapest quote without making some back ground checks. Of course, choosing a Benchmark member means those checks have already been carried out for you. Remember, if the quote seems too good to be true, it usually is!
